The root has anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory, cathartic, demulcent, de-obstruent, diuretic, emetic and expectorant properties.

Useful in bronchitis, colds, coughs, colic, sinusitis, chronic diarrhoea, laryngitis, headache, sore throat and oedema.
